Saturday: splash day

Morning: Sunrise WaterPark or FunSpot

For older kids and thrill-seekers, head to Sunrise WaterPark, billed as the biggest water park in Nigeria. It has tall racing slides and pools spread across a hillside, and it opens at 10am, so arrive early to grab shade. Tickets are around ₦35,000 for children and ₦45,000 for adults, so it’s a treat day. It’s closed on Mondays.

For younger children, FunSpot Recreational Park in Mabushi is a smaller, friendlier option with water slides, splash pools and a big playground. It’s open every day from 12pm to 6pm. Children are ₦12,000 (₦10,000 each for groups of five or more), adults are just ₦2,000 and under-2s go free. Kids must wear swimwear to use the pool. Follow @funspotparkabuja for holiday deals. During half-term it often drops prices.

Lunch: BluCabana

Dry off and head to BluCabana on Shehu Yar’Adua Way in Mabushi, which has poolside seating and a kids’ corner on the menu (roughly ₦7,000–₦10,500 per kids’ meal). Call 0916 066 3000 to book at weekends.

Late afternoon: Jabi Lake

Wind down at Jabi Lake. The lakeside park is free, there’s a playground, and you can take a boat out on the water for an extra fee. Time it for sunset: the light over the lake is one of the prettiest sights in the city.

Evening: a film at Jabi Lake Mall

Finish with a family film at Silverbird Cinemas in Jabi Lake Mall, one of the busiest cinemas in Nigeria, with five screens. The mall’s food court makes dinner easy.

Sunday: parks, museums and rides

Morning: picnic at Millennium Park

Millennium Park in Maitama is Abuja’s biggest park and it’s free. It opens at 7am, so go early while it’s cool. Pack a picnic and a ball, and let the kids run across the wide lawns and explore the paths.

Lunch: Santorini

Santorini on Kwaji Close in Maitama has a kids’ corner on the menu (around ₦10,000) and is open every day from 9am. Call 0708 470 6545 to book.

Afternoon: Discovery Museum or Magicland

Option 1: Discovery Museum. Art Tech District’s digital museum on Hombari Crescent, Wuse 2, is full of interactive light and projection rooms that kids love, and it’s air-conditioned, which helps on hot or rainy afternoons. Tickets are around ₦4,000 for children and ₦6,000 for adults. On Sundays it opens at 12pm.

Magicland Amusement Park, Abuja
Magicland Amusement Park

Option 2: Magicland. Abuja’s long-running amusement park opposite the National Stadium (it used to be called Wonderland) has old-school fairground rides, with a cheap gate fee of around ₦1,500–₦4,000 and rides from ₦1,000–₦3,000. Some rides are showing their age, so call ahead to check what’s running and supervise little ones closely. It’s open from 10am at weekends.

What a weekend costs

For a family of four (two adults, two children), a budget weekend of FunSpot, Jabi Lake, Millennium Park and the Discovery Museum comes to roughly ₦50,000 in tickets, plus food and transport. Swap FunSpot for Sunrise WaterPark and tickets come to about ₦180,000. Prices are approximate and change during holidays.

Good to know

  • Pack for sun and water: swimwear, towels, sunscreen, hats and plenty of drinking water. Abuja afternoons are hot.
  • Mondays: Sunrise WaterPark is closed, so plan water days for Tuesday to Sunday.
  • Holidays get busy: go early in the day and look out for half-term deals on Instagram.
  • Play World in Jabi, the popular trampoline and soft-play centre, announced in June 2026 that it was closed until further notice. Check @playworldngr to see if it has reopened.
  • Getting around: ride-hailing is the easiest way to hop between Mabushi, Jabi and Maitama, which are all 10–20 minutes apart outside rush hour.
